Katie's Q1 Attempt - What does a book sound like?

So lately I've kinda been into this little series of books some of you may have heard about called Twilight. :) And I thought it would be a fun project to score the second book. So here's my take on what New Moon sounds like. Each song is intended to be sung by a particular character in the book, almost like conversations. Enjoy.

New Moon

  1. The Five Satins - In The Still Of The Night (Edward)
  2. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (Edward)
  3. Beirut - The Penalty (Edward)
  4. Metric - Help, I'm Alive (Bella)
  5. Johnny Cash - Hurt (Edward)
  6. Björk & PJ Harvey - Satisfaction (Bella)
  7. Mike Doughty - Your Misfortune (Jacob)
  8. The Smashing Pumpkins - Landside (Bella)
  9. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - The Tracks Of My Tears (Bella)
  10. Counting Crows - A Murder of One (Jacob)
  11. Björk - Joga (live) (Bella)
  12. Jason Webley - Again the Night (Jacob)
  13. Radiohead - Creep (Edward)
  14. Melissa Etheridge - Come To My Window (Bella)
  15. Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová - Falling Slowly (Edward & Bella)
  16. INXS - Never Tear Us Apart (Edward)
  17. Garbage - You Look So Fine (Bella)
  18. Luciano Pavarotti - Nessun Dorma (Edward)
  19. Jason Webley - Lullaby (Jacob)

  1. This was a really fun project. I started out trying to keep the songs associated with Edward sung by a man, Bella a woman, and so on. That turned out to be pretty tough when I found songs that had perfect lyrics but the "wrong" singer. Earlier selections were pretty slow overall, and I had to cut some really great ones like "Ghost" by the Indigo Girls and "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star (remember her?).

It was also cool trying to keep a consistent style/feel to the songs associated with a character. Melodic older-feeling songs for Edward, gruff and loud for Jacob, and painfully desperate, beautiful, and messed up for Bella.

This is definately a down-tempo playlist, full of self-destructive lyrics, so I think I might be ready for an uplifting-themed mixtape next!

  2. nice list, katie.

big ups for #17; that's one of the better tracks on v2.0 imo.
